Forced Labor Is Systemic In Luxury Industry Supply Chains: Analysis And Solutions

Dior and Giorgio Armani are among the world’s most reputable companies. They both rank in RepTrak’s Top 100 global brand reputation index based on scores across seven different dimensions, including Conduct, Workplace and Citizenship.

So it was quite a surprise to see these most reputable of companies acted so disreputably when it comes to their supply chain. An Italian court just found both companies used contractors which violated workers’ rights so that they could produce “Made in Italy” products for “Made in China” prices.

The Italian court also alleged similar abuses are systemic throughout the fashion and luxury industry supply chain and is investigating in the behavior of another dozen brands.

The non-profit Know The Chain group has pointed the finger at a long list of luxury brands that may be using forced labor.

So I dug into this issue in my latest story on The Robin Report and found a number of companies that can help brands keep their eye on their suppliers to make sure they are acting ethically and morally where human rights are concerned.
